36,000 farmers switch to high end organic farming

In Himachal Pradesh, nearly 36,000 farmers have switched over to high end organic farming during past few years. These farmers covering about 76,000 hectare area and are producing 16.50 lakh metric tons of vegetables.

To ensure the balanced use of nutrients in fields, about 3 Lakh 89 thousand Soil Health cards have been issued to the farmers. 4,395 metric tons vermin compost is being producing annually in 517 units while 659 hectare of area have been brought under the micro irrigation.

More than 69 percent population of this hill state depends upon the agriculture sector. It is the backbone of people which contributes nearly 14 percent to state GDP.

The government has issued 7.14 Lakh Kisan Credit Cards to the farmers so that they did not become victims of money lenders. The farmers are also getting subsidy on the organic manure, bio fertilizers and bio Pesticides.
