Power tussle continues in Manipur

Imphal/Panaji/Chandigarh, March13: Power tussle continues between BJP and Congress in Manipur over the government formation in the state. Both parties met Governor Dr Najma Heptulla in Imphal last night, with the ruling Congress staking claim to form the government and its main challenger BJP showing its strength.

Congress Legislator Party leader and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh urged the Governor to invite his party to form the government. He said, he will show that the party commands majority on the floor of the House.  

BJP State President Kshetrimayum Bhabananda Singh showed the party’s strength saying that they have the support of 32 legislators in the 60-member Assembly.

BJP’s state legislature party is meeting today to choose its leader, after which it will formally stake claim. The party will also announce its Chief Ministerial candidate.

In Goa, BJP Legislature Party leader Manohar Parrikar will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister tomorrow evening. This was reported by news agencies. Governor Mridula Sinha had appointed Mr Parrikar as CM last night asking him to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly within 15 days of taking oath.

In Punjab, State Congress President Captain Amarinder Singh will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister on Thursday in Chandigarh. He met Governor VP Singh Badnore yesterday and staked claim to form the government in the state.
