Delhi Police files FIR after DU student alleges rape threats by ABVP

The Delhi Police has filed an FIR in connection with the rape threat to a student of the Delhi University.
The Delhi Commission for Women had yesterday written to the Police demanding registration of an FIR and action against the guilty. The girl, who is daughter of a Kargil martyr, had moved to the Commission alleging that she was being threatened with rape after her social media posts against the ABVP.
Last week, Left-affiliated AISA and BJP-backed ABVP clashed with each other at Ramjas college causing injuries to many. The reason of the clash was an invite to JNU students, Umar Khalid, who is facing sedition charge, and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar. The seminar was withdrawn by the college authorities following opposition by the ABVP.
A few policemen and journalists were also roughed up during the violence. Meanwhile, the Student wing of Congress is holding a one-day hunger strike outside Delhi University Arts faculty today to protest against recent violence in Ramjas college. The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) is demanding the restoration of peace and safety in Delhi university. Thousands of Delhi University and JNU students held a Save DU protest march against ABVP at North campus.
