EC asks BSP to send details of cash deposits in party’s accounts post demonetisation
The Election Commission has asked Bahujan Samaj Party to send its details of contributions received in cash and deposited in party’s bank accounts. The Poll Panel had drawn the attention of the party to its transparency guidelines which provide for due account of donation received in cash. The Commission’s order came in response to a writ petition alleging deposit of huge amount in BSP’s bank account in cash within a short period after announcement of note ban on 8th of November last year. The party has to submit its reply to the Poll body by 15th of this month.
Election commission has also taken objection to felicitation of sports person from North East by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, DONER, without prior permission from model code of conduct. The poll body said that it has come to its notice through media reports that the two Ministries felicitated nine sportspersons who had participated in Rio Olympics from North-Eastern States. Out of them, five were from Manipur, which is going through polling process. In a letter to the secretaries of the Ministries of DONER and Home, the commission has sought the reply by 3:00 PM tomorrow.
