Lakshya crashes in Balasore

Balasore (Odisha): An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) of the Indian Air Force on Friday crashed in Balesore, Odisha. The incident took place during morning hours while IAF was undertaking a trial of the UAV. As per information received, no one was reported to be injured in the incident.
During the course of test, UAV ‘Lakshya’ at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha’s Balesore district crashed in an open ground near Chandamani at Baliapal. The reason which led to the crash was yet to be clear.
An inquiry in this connection has been launched, added sources.
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Lakshya is a pilotless target aircraft or PTA that acts as a reusable aerial target system. Lakshya is remotely operated from the ground to provide aerial targets for training and Air Defence.
