UP government rules out ban on liquor at various religious places

Uttar Pradesh government has ordered strict implementation of liquor ban at religious places of Vrindavan in Mathura, Ayodhya in Faizabad, Chitrakoot Naimisharanya in Sitapur, Deva Shareef in Barabanki and Devband in Saharanpur districts. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that any negligence in this regard will be taken up seriously and officials responsible for it will be punished.

As per information received, after viewing presentations of excise department last night, Yogi said that new excise policy should be formulated to increase the revenue. He said that new policy should be formulated after study of policies of other states.

The Chief Minister also directed to chalk out a working plan for formulation of molasses policy for current year. He has said that the decision of ban of liquor shop within one kilometre radius of Kashi Vishwanath temple at Varanasi, Lord Srikrishna birthplace in Mathura and Sangam at Allahabad must be strictly followed.

He said that honest and hardworking officers should be posted at sensitive places and such officers in the department should be identified as earliest. Yogi said that all possible steps should be taken to complete ban on illicit liquor and its smuggling across the state.

He said that all 8544 liquor shops displaced following order of the Supreme Court will not be set up against the directions of the apex court and NGT. All these shops will not be functional near to residential localities, hospitals, educational institutions and religious places.
