Babar Azam resigns as Pakistan captain; New captains announced

Babar Azam has decided to step down as captain for Pakistan’s cricket team in all formats, he took to his social media platforms to announce the same.The decision comes just four days after Pakistan finished fifth in the World Cup.

During the tournament, Pakistan faced criticism for losing five out of nine games, especially the surprising defeat to Afghanistan. Many people questioned Babar’s leadership, especially regarding his choices for the team. Some accused him of favouring certain players like Imam ul Haq, Mohammed Nawaz, and Shadab Khan.

Adding to the controversy, Rameez Ashraf, drew a lot of attention when he stated during the World Cup that the team selection was influenced by former chairman Inzamam ul Haq and skipper Babar Azam, inviting further scrutiny into the team’s decision-making process.

After Babar’s announcement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) quickly announced Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new T20I captain. He’ll lead the team in the shortest format. And Shan Masood will take charge of the Test matches for the Men in Green.

These changes mark a significant shift in Pakistan’s cricket leadership, and fans are eager to see how the new captains will guide the team forward.
