Akshay Kumar was expected to walk the Cannes red carpet in 2022. He is one of numerous Indian celebrities who will attend the Cannes Film Festival on May 17 as part of the Indian delegation.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur will lead the delegation. However, Akshay Kumar will not be a part of the trip because he tested positive for COVID-19 three days before he was set to walk the red carpet at the famous film festival as India’s representative.
Akshay Kumar took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Was really looking forward to rooting for our cinema at the India Pavilion at #Cannes2022, but have sadly tested positive for Covid. Will rest it out. Loads of best wishes to you and your entire team, @ianuragthakur. Will really miss being there.”
Meanwhile, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nayanthara, Pooja Hegde, Tamannaah Bhatia, AR Rahman, and R Madhavan are among the Indian celebs who will be part of the trip. Hina Khan, an actress, will also be attending the festival this year.
In 2019, she made her red carpet debut at Cannes for the poster presentation of her film Lines. The actress will attend the poster presentation of her Indo-English flick Country of Blind later this year.
R Madhavan will visit the festival to promote his new film Rocketry, The Nambi Effect. On May 19, the film will have its international debut in Cannes, as part of the festival’s celebration of India as the official country of honour this year.
The biographical drama was shot in many languages simultaneously, including Hindi, Tamil, and English, with the English version premiering at Cannes. The film will be released in theatres on July 1 and will be available in Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
