Ind vs Aus, Shubman Gill registers second Test century

Must Read

On Day 3 of the fourth Test against Australia, Shubman Gill continued his second century in the longest format of the game. Gill was chosen to bat alongside Rohit Sharma in the third Test at Indore after team management benched KL Rahul due to his poor performance.

Gill was unable to maximise his performance in the third Test, but he shined in Ahmedabad. In red-ball cricket, the teenage opener scored his second century for India, directing a more-than-100-run third-wicket stand with Cheteshwar Pujara.

Despite achieving his first Test century during the Bangladesh series, Gill was unfortunately replaced in the remaining games by KL Rahul. However, after struggling in the first few games against Australia, Gill made a great return in Indore and performed spectacularly in Ahmedabad.

When Gill scored in the triple digits, the entire Indian camp erupted in celebration. But it was Virat Kohli’s face that stood out. With a wide smile on his face, the former India captain praised Gill when he scored.

However, India suffered a major setback soon after Gill’s century when Todd Murphy dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara for LBW. At tea, India had a score of 188/2 after 63 overs, with Gill and Kohli at the crease.

The hosts are still 292 runs behind Steve Smith’s club.

Cheteshwar Pujara (42) and Gill (103 batting) added 113 runs before the latter was caught leg-before by spinner Todd Murphy. The first innings total for Australia was 480. Their 74-run partnership ended when Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 35 off the final delivery of the 21st over.
