India’s “Independent” Approach To Ukraine Crisis At UN – Russia Welcomes
In the face of harsh Western criticism over Ukraine, the Russian embassy in India today praised India’s “balanced, moral, and independent approach” at a UN Security Council briefing on the execution of the Minsk Agreements on Ukraine. In the greater goal of ensuring international peace and security, India has stated that “quiet and productive” diplomacy is the need of the hour, and that any moves that heighten tension “may best be avoided by all sides.”
India stated before the United Nations that the matter can only be resolved via diplomatic engagement.
Russian embassy tweeted
“We appreciate India’s balanced, principled, and independent stance,” while resharing a video clip from India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador T. S. Tirumurti, remarked that India appreciates the efforts being made to execute the Minsk Agreements, notably through the Normandy framework, which includes Germany, Russia, Ukraine, and France. According to him, the accords lay the groundwork for a “negotiated and peaceful settlement” of the situation in Eastern Ukraine.
India also praised the recent talks in Paris and Berlin of the Normandy format countries’ political advisors.
India’s aim, according to Ambassador Tirumurti, is in finding a solution that allows for “rapid de-escalation of tensions” while taking into account all countries’ genuine security concerns.
“Indian nationals’ well-being is a top priority for us,” he said.
