The show has provided viewers some of the most juicy nuggets about B-town direct from the horse’s mouth over the previous six seasons. And now there’s been a lot of debate about it. Hold your horses, because the show will not be returning to television for a new season. Yes, it is correct! On Wednesday, none other than Johar himself revealed the surprising news on his Instagram account. “IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT,” the director-producer stated in the caption of a post he shared on social media.
The caption on his Instagram post stated, “Hello there! For the past six seasons, Koffee With Karan has been a part of my and your lives. I’d like to believe we’ve made an impression and earned a spot in pop culture history. As a result, I regret to inform you that Koffee With Karan will not be returning. Karan Johar is a Bollywood director.”
The show, which began aired on Star World in 2004, ran for six seasons until it was cancelled in 2019. The first guests of the show were Johar’s close friends, superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who went on to give audiences a rare and intimate look into the off-screen dynamics of the film industry, cliques, friendships, and romantic equations of the stars.
On November 19, 2004, Star World India broadcasted the first episode of Koffee with Karan. The final episode of the show’s final season, hosted by Karan Johar, aired on March 17, 2019.
