Matheesha Pathirana joins CSK camp ahead of MI clash, Dushmantha Chameera, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Wanindu Hasaranga are among the Sri Lankan players that have made an impression in the IPL 2022.
Matheesha Pathirana, a bowler who has been named as a replacement for injured Adam Milne in the Chennai Super Kings camp, will join the Sri Lankan side in the IPL.
Milne was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a hamstring injury in CSK’s opening match against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26, which was also the season opener.
Pathirana was part of Sri Lanka’s U19 World Cup squads in 2020 and 2022. He will join CSK at the price of INR 20 Lakh.
Pathirana, 19, is known in Sri Lanka cricket circles as ‘Junior Lasith Malinga’ because of his slingy side-on motion. The adolescent has been a reserve player for the CSK since 2020. Pathirana is a graduate of Kandy’s Trinity College, where Kumar Sangakkara was a student.
CSK, the defending champions who sit only a rung above bottom-placed MI, have similarly struggled as a unit, despite some individual brilliance. With five losses in six games, a loss on Thursday would put them in danger of being eliminated.
