Mumbai to Goa in Just 6 Hours: NH-66 Set to Open Next Month

The long-awaited NH-66 highway project connecting Mumbai’s Panvel to Kanyakumari’s Cape Comorin is set to become operational next month, just in time for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

The ambitious four-lane highway spanning 1,608 kilometers is set to significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Goa from 10 hours to 5 or 6 hours, promising to transform the way people travel in the western coast of India.

Public Work Department minister, Ravindra Chavan, confirmed the project’s final stages during a recent meeting attended by Mumbai’s Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde.

The completion of the NH-66 highway is anticipated to bring about a major shift in transportation dynamics and stimulate economic and tourism activities across the states it connects, including Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.

While the project’s progress has been largely smooth, it hasn’t been without its challenges. During the ongoing construction, the Panvel to Pen Taluka section experienced some minor cracks. These were promptly addressed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which swiftly patched the gaps ensuring the safety and quality of the highway.
