Naga Babu daughter among 140 held in Hyderabad pub raid, The daughter of Tollywood actress Naga Babu, performer Niharika Konidela, and singer Rahul Sipligunj were among 144 persons detained by police for partying outside of business hours at a pub in Hyderabad.
The pub at the Radisson Blu Hotel in upscale Banjara Hills was searched about 3 a.m. by Hyderabad City Police Task Force members, who discovered cocaine and other prohibited narcotics on the premises.
A daughter of a former Director General of the Andhra Pradesh Police, a son of a Telugu Desam Party TDP MP, and children of other well-known persons were among those caught partying.
Police hauled people present in the pub to the neighbouring Banjara Hills police station and questioned them after finding some packets of cocaine and after the venue was raided, some of those celebrating threw away the packets.
Ironically, singer and Big Boss Telugu reality show winner Rahul Sipligunj, who was imprisoned, was a part of the police’s “drug-free Hyderabad” campaign. As part of the campaign, he sang a song.
Meanwhile, Naga Babu released a video statement stating that, despite the presence of her daughter Niharika, she had done nothing wrong. He said that the police had stated unequivocally that she was not at fault. “Our conscience is clear,” Naga Babu, Chiranjeevi’s younger brother, stated.
Naga Babu urged the mainstream media and social media to refrain from spreading “unwanted rumours” regarding Niharika.
The detainees include 33 women and some members of the pub’s staff, who were determined to have broken the rules by permitting the party to go on past the permissible hours. The pub had reportedly become known for supplying illicit narcotics and was also offering liquor to non-hotel visitors despite having a license that only allowed it to serve hotel guests.
They were prosecuted for failing to carry out their legal responsibilities in the control of narcotics in pubs and bars.
