The Narcotics Control Bureau’s Special Investigation Team has deleted Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, and five others from a charge-sheet issued on Friday in connection with a drugs bust onboard a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai last October.

On October 3, 2021, Aryan and 19 others were detained by the NCB’s Mumbai zonal branch on claims that they were all “intrinsically tied” to a drug conspiracy.

“SIT conducted its inquiry objectively,” the NCB stated. The standard has been set by the principle of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

A complaint has been filed against 14 people under various provisions of the NDPS Act based on the findings of the SIT investigation. Due to a lack of proof, a complaint against the other six people will not be filed.”

The NCB had detained Aryan on the basis of communications allegedly found on his phone taken from him, despite the fact that nothing was seized from him during the search on October 2 of last year.

The NCB said that it was also relying on “voluntary declarations” made by some of the accused which were afterwards repudiated  to prove that they had used illegal substances. However, no tests to establish consumption were carried out.

On October 3, Aryan was arrested and brought before a magistrate’s court, where he was sentenced to a day in the NCB’s custody.
