Uday Samant, a fellow Shiv Sena official and ally of Uddhav Thackeray, has left Surat for Guwahati to join the renegade MLAs led by Eknath Shinde. Samant, an MLA from Ratnagiri in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, departed from Surat on Sunday for Guwahati. He serves as a minister in Uddhav Thackeray’s MVA government. He has joined the rebel group led by Eknath Shinde as the ninth minister.
Samant was observed boarding a private jet at the Surat airport and travelling to the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati, Assam, to join the MLA rebels commanded by Eknath Shinde. In the current Maha Vikas Aghadi Government, Uday Samant is the Cabinet Minister for the Ministry of Higher Education. He is the eighth minister from Maharashtra to join the opposition.
The information regarding Uday Samant’s travel from Surat, booked through a private aviation company, has surfaced. The flight left for Guwahati at 2:30 PM on Sunday.
Eknath Shinde’s rebellion group currently has 47 MLAs in Guwahati, including 38 Shiv Sena MLAs, 2 Prahar Jan Shakti Party MLAs, and 7 independents. The Shiv Sena currently has 39 members after Uday Samant joined the group.
However, the Shiv Sena is now down to just two MLAs serving as ministers in the MVA administration. The only two ministers in the government who are Shiv Sena MLAs are Aditya Thackeray and Shankarrao Gadakh. Two other ministers for the party are MLCs. They are Legislative Council members Anil Parab and Subhash Desai. A MLC is also CM Uddhav Thackeray.
Shankarrao Gadakh is the second Sena MLA in the MVA cabinet after Aditya Thackeray. He initially ran for office as an Independent MLA, but in August 2020, he merged his party, Krantikari Shetkari Paksha, with the Shiv Sena.
Eknath Shinde, Dadaji Bhuse, Gulabrao Patil, Sandeepan Bhumre, Shambhuraj Desai, Abdul Sattar, Rajendra Patil Yedravkar, Bachhu Kadu, and Uday Samant are among the rebel ministers.
