Congress leader and Wayanad MP, Rahul Gandhi, is all set to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from Amethi.
Amethi, which has long been associated with the Gandhi family, witnessed an unexpected twist in 2019 when Smriti Irani, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), emerged victorious, breaking the established pattern.
The news of Rahul Gandhi’s return to Amethi has been confirmed by Ajay Rai, the newly appointed President of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. Rai declared, “Rahul Gandhi will contest from Amethi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.”
Amethi, historically a Congress stronghold in Uttar Pradesh, experienced a shift during the 2019 elections, with Gandhi losing to Smriti Irani by a margin of approximately 55,000 votes. Traditionally recognized as a Congress bastion, Amethi holds political significance as it had been contested by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul’s mother.
Both leaders, Rahul Gandhi & Smriti Irani, enjoy immense local support in the Amethi constituency and are determined to secure victory. The ongoing exchange of political jabs between Smriti Irani and Rahul Gandhi in the parliament is now taking a new turn with a rematch in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
With the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) seeking a third consecutive term, this clash between the two prominent leaders in Amethi becomes a focal point of the 2024 elections.
