Shah Rukh Khan goes pan-India in Atlee’s action-packed thriller, Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film, was revealed by Red Chillies Entertainment on Friday. The action-thriller, directed by Atlee, has apparently been in the works for some time, with various set leaks making their way online.

Following Pathaan and Dunki, this is the third new Shah Rukh film to be announced this year. On June 2, 2023, Jawan will be launched.

A one-and-a-half minute film accompanied the announcement, which began with a view of the Northern Lights. Whistles can be heard as Shah Rukh’s face, which is bandaged in bandages, is exposed. The footage then switches to a television screen, where a coded message appears to be blinking.

Following that, Shah Rukh’s character discovers a cache of ammo and hears a radio communication. As hype music plays in the background, he laughs maniacally and exclaims, “Ready.” With its multilingual release, Jawan looks to be aiming for a pan-India audience.

“Jawan is a universal story that transcends languages, countries, and is for all to enjoy,” Shah Rukh Khan said in a statement about the film. Atlee deserves credit for making this one-of-a-kind film, which has also been a terrific experience for me as a fan of action movies! The teaser is only the tip of the iceberg, giving us a taste of what’s to come.”

“Jawan has something in it for everyone be it actions, emotions, drama all intertwined into make a visual extravaganza,” director Atlee said of working with SRK on Jawan.

I want to give the audience an unforgettable experience, an event that they can all share, and who better to deliver it than Shah Rukh Khan himself, presented in a way that has never been seen before.”

The actor had been on a self-imposed hiatus following a string of box office flops, the most recent of which was 2018’s Zero. The film, which also starred Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, failed to recoup its claimed Rs.200 crore budget at the box office.

Shah Rukh Khan did, however, star in the Netflix reality show Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, portrayed Mufasa in The Lion King’s Hindi remake, and narrated Kabir Khan’s Prime Video series The Forgotten Army – Azadi Ke Liye.

Shah Rukh had previously featured in big-budget films like Fan, Raees, and Jab Harry Met Sejal, all of which were lacklustre. His most recent film, Dilwale, was a flop. In the modestly successful Alia Bhatt-starrer Dear Zindagi, he also had a long cameo.

Pathaan is an upcoming action thriller starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, is said to be part of YRF’s planned shared universe of spy flicks, which includes Salman Khan’s Tiger franchise and Hrithik Roshan’s War.

The third Tiger film is in the works, and Shah Rukh will reportedly appear as Pathaan in it.
