UPI’s ATM allows you to withdraw cash without ATM card

India has taken a big step in making it easier for people to get cash from ATMs. Hitachi Payment Services, working together with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has introduced the country’s very first UPI ATM. This new kind of ATM uses your smartphone and a digital payment system called UPI to make cash withdrawals simpler and faster.

In India, UPI, which stands for Unified Payments Interface, has become the most popular way to make digital payments. More than half of all digital transactions in the country happen through UPI. Now, this new UPI ATM brings the convenience of digital payments to traditional ATMs, making it easy to get cash without needing a physical bank card.

Sumil Vikamsey, who is in charge of Cash Business at Hitachi Payment Services, is excited about this new development. He says, “This new feature allows anyone with a bank account to withdraw cash quickly using QR codes and UPI.”

So, how can you use this UPI ATM? Here are the simple steps:

  1. Choose How Much Cash You Want: Start by selecting the amount of money you want to withdraw.
  2. See the QR Code: The ATM will show a special code on its screen. This code represents the amount of cash you want to withdraw.
  3. Use Your Smartphone: Open your UPI payment app on your smartphone and scan the QR code shown on the ATM screen.
  4. Enter Your UPI PIN: After scanning the code, you’ll be asked to enter a PIN number, which is like a secret code to make sure your transaction is safe.
  5. Get Your Cash: Once you’ve entered the PIN and confirmed the transaction, the ATM will give you the cash you requested.

This smart ATM is designed to give you quick and secure access to cash, even if you live in a remote area. By combining the ease and safety of UPI with traditional ATMs, it’s now simpler than ever to get the cash you need.

NPCI, which has played a big role in making UPI popular in India, is happy about this new way of using ATMs. They say, “We’re excited to give customers this easy and customer-friendly way to use ATMs. This new ‘UPI ATM’ is a big step forward in making ATMs more convenient and secure.”
