Netflix, the popular global streaming service, is partnering with India’s famous studio, Yash Raj Films (YRF), to make exciting movies and TV shows that people in India and all over the world will enjoy.
The partnership will start with a four-part thriller series called “The Railway Men,” which honors the brave workers who helped during the terrible Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984. This disaster happened when a toxic gas leaked from an American pesticide factory in Bhopal, India. Many people died, and many were hurt. “The Railway Men” will tell the story of the workers at the Bhopal train station who saved lives. This series is the first project from YRF Entertainment, the part of YRF that makes shows and movies for streaming. The main actors in this series are R. Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu Sharma, and the young talent Babil Khan. It’s directed by Shiv Rawail, who worked as an assistant director on YRF’s movies like “Dhoom 3” and “Fan” before making this series.
The second project in this partnership is “Maharaj,” a movie set in the 1800s. It’s a story of a regular journalist who takes on a powerful figure in society, someone many people think of as a savior. The journalist discovers things that challenge the way society works. Junaid Khan, the son of Aamir Khan, plays a leading role in this movie, along with Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari, and Shalini Pandey. Siddharth P. Malhotra, who directed the successful movie “Hichki,” is the director.
Yash Raj Films has had a great year in 2023 with “Pathaan,” starring Shah Rukh Khan, becoming the biggest hit in Indian theaters. “Jawan,” which YRF distributed internationally, is also one of the top movies of the year.
Netflix has done well with “The Romantics,” a series about YRF founder Yash Chopra.
Monika Shergill, VP of Content at Netflix India, is excited about this partnership and wants to make shows and movies that people love. Yash Raj Films is respected in the movie world, and together, they hope to create quality content for people all over the world to enjoy.
Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, says their goal is to make entertaining, inspiring, and special stories from India for everyone around the world. He thinks Netflix is the perfect platform because it’s available in over 190 countries and focuses on making good content.
