The Enforcement Directorate (ED) was ordered by the Calcutta High Court on Sunday to transport Partha Chatterjee, a West Bengal minister who was detained in connection with the school jobs scam, to AIIMS Bhubaneswar early on Monday. This was a significant blow for the minister.
The minister must appear in person at 4 PM on Monday before a special ED court in Kolkata, per the court’s directive. Justice Bibek Chaudhuri gave the order, “The investigating agency is directed to convey the accused by air ambulance to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar in the early morning on July 25, 2022.”
Justice Chaudhuri ordered that the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar authority will have a team of specialist doctors in cardiology, nephrology, respiratory medicine, and endocrinology examine the accused after hearing arguments in a revision application filed by the ED challenging a lower court order sending Chatterjee to state-run SSKM Hospital after his lawyers claimed he was ill.
