Actor Shah Rukh Khan and those travelling with him were detained by the Customs Department at Mumbai Airport for several hours last night due to several expensive watches they had in their luggage. According to sources, he had to pay a customs duty of 6.83 lakh before being permitted to depart the airport.
The Bollywood celebrity had flown in on a private jet to Mumbai International Airport’s Terminal 3 after attending an event in Sharjah.
When Khan and those with him were exiting the terminal, the pricey watches were discovered in the luggage.
While Khan and his manager reportedly exited the airport after Customs formalities were completed, other members of his entourage, including his bodyguard, reportedly weren’t allowed to leave until the next morning.
According to reports, the star’s luggage also included packaging for six luxury timepieces with a retail value of almost 18 lakh rupees.
Khan was recognised for his contributions to global cinema and culture yesterday at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2022, where he received the Global Icon of Cinema and Cultural Narrative Award.
