Rahul Gandhi chosen as PM Candidate: Ashok Gehlot

In a significant development, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has officially announced Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate for the Congress party in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This decision follows extensive discussions among the participating parties of the INDIA alliance, a coalition of 26 opposition parties formed to address the current political landscape.

Gehlot emphasized that the alliance’s formation was prompted by public concerns amid the present situation in the country. He underlined the need for unity among all parties, citing the local factors influencing each election and the pressing demand for a collective response.

Drawing attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership style, Gehlot cautioned against arrogance. He pointed out that the BJP came to power in 2014 with just 31 percent of the votes, implying that a considerable portion of the electorate did not support the party. Gehlot underscored that the results of the 2024 elections would determine the nation’s next Prime Minister.

Gehlot also expressed doubt about the NDA’s aim to secure 50 percent of the votes in the upcoming elections. He noted that Modi’s popularity did not result in a 50 percent vote share previously and predicted a decline in the upcoming polls. The 2024 elections are poised to be a crucial moment in shaping the country’s political direction, with Rahul Gandhi at the forefront as the prime ministerial candidate for the Congress party.
