Lok Sabha elections just around the doorstep, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced a series of new initiatives. Among these is excellent news for state government employees. The Chhattisgarh government has declared a 4% rise in Dearness Allowance for state government employees. Clearly, these measures are part of a wider plan for the Lok Sabha election.
Speaking at a press conference here, Sai also announced the formation of a five-member committee to address the demands and issues of contractual and other state government employees.
“We have decided to increase the DA by four per cent under the Seventh Pay Commission for state government employees and also to hike the Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners by four per cent,” the minister added.
The decision will benefit around 3.90 lakh state government employees and 1.20 lakh pensioners. Sai noted that the raise will take effect on March 1 of this year. With this rise, the DA under the Seventh Pay Commission will be 46 percent, compared to 230 percent under the Sixth Pay Commission. According to officials, the raise will increase the exchequer’s burden by Rs 816 crore every year.
The state’s officers and employees will also receive the final tranche of arrears under the Seventh Pay Commission, Sai stated. The CM stated that his party committed (before to the assembly elections last year) to address the needs and problems of contractual and other employees, and that a committee led by Principal Secretary, Panchayat and Rural Development Niharika Barik has been formed to that end.
“The five-member committee will review the demands and issues of the employees, and after holding discussions with the representatives of various employee unions, it will submit its suggestions to the government,” the official said.
