As the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) bloc gears up for its upcoming Mumbai meeting, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed his support for Rahul Gandhi to be the face of the alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Mr. Baghel pointed out that the BJP was perturbed by the widespread popularity Rahul Gandhi garnered through his Kanyakumari-to-Kashmir Bharat Jodo Yatra. This journey, however, led to his disqualification from the Lok Sabha and the loss of his official residence.
In an interview with news agency PTI, Mr. Baghel stated, “As a Congress man, I feel Rahul Gandhi should be the prime ministerial face.” He was responding to a question about whether he endorsed Rahul Gandhi as the representative of the INDIA alliance in the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
He further elucidated that the I.N.D.I.A bloc’s principal objective is to remove “dictatorial people from power.” He also emphasized that any differences among the alliance’s parties would be resolved through discussions.
The INDIA bloc, consisting of over two dozen opposition parties, has come together to take on the ruling BJP in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Regarding the role he envisions for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mr. Baghel remarked, “We would like to see Priyanka Gandhi in parliament. She is our star campaigner.” This statement underscores the party’s high regard for Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s involvement in the political arena.
The I.N.D.I.A bloc’s Mumbai meeting, scheduled for later this month, is expected to further solidify the alliance’s strategies and approach as they prepare to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
