In a significant move, the Maharashtra government has launched a health insurance scheme that offers free medical tests and treatment to its citizens. This step highlights the state’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility.
Starting from August 15, the scheme will cover medical services at 2,418 government hospitals and medical centers. With more than 25.5 million people already using these facilities, the initiative aims to provide better healthcare options.
The services include essential medical tests and treatments, with additional coverage for cancer treatment in Nashik and Amravati. This demonstrates the government’s dedication to addressing critical healthcare needs.
It’s important to note that the scheme won’t apply to hospitals and medical colleges related to the Medical Education department. This decision was made after discussions among different officials.
This initiative came after meetings attended by Health Minister Sawant and officials from various departments. In the face of ongoing health challenges like the Covid19, this step signifies the state’s commitment to its citizens’ health and well-being.
As the first Indian state to introduce such a comprehensive health insurance scheme, Maharashtra sets an example for others to follow in ensuring accessible healthcare for all.
