Virat Kohli misses out on double hundred

Virat Kohli, India’s best hitter, lost out on a well-deserved double century but went on to record his greatest score against Australia. In the fourth and final Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series, Kohli scored 186 runs.

Kohli was cool during his superb knock at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli scored 186 runs off 364 balls while hitting 15 boundaries.

Surprisingly, this was Kohli’s greatest score against Australia, surpassing his previous mark of 169 in December 2014 at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium. Kohli, who enjoys playing against Australia, has already scored eight century in Tests against them.

Kohli recorded the highest score of the 2023 BGT series with this knock, moving up to second place in terms of most runs scored in the four-match series. Kohli has 297 runs at an average of 49.50 in four matches.

After losing his overnight batting partner Ravindra Jadeja early in the day’s play, Kohli battled through a sluggish phase in which Australian bowlers dominated.

Kohli was subsequently joined by wicket-keeper batsman KS Bharat, who scored 44 runs in short succession. Then Axar Patel came in and demonstrated why he has been India’s most consistent player in this series by pounding the Australian bowling attack all over the pitch.

Kohli and Axar put up a 162-run stand to help India surpass Australia’s first-innings total. Kohli then attempted to boost the ante, but was caught by Marnus Labuschagne on the deep mid-wicket boundary by Todd Murphy.

Earlier in the day, Kohli reached his century in 241 balls with a calm innings in which he did not lose concentration and scored only 5 boundaries. Kohli scored his 75th international century and 14th Test century at home. Kohli surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin, Virender Sehwag, and Dilip Vengsarkar in the elite group of Indian batsmen with the most hundreds.
